Americans are becoming fatter by the day it seems. Weight loss surgeries have become very popular. Are fad diets the cause because we do the yo-yo effect with weight loss & gain? Why has obesity become America’s biggest problem? Is it from over-eating? Is it from the hormones in our food to mass produce enough to feed people? A combination? Something else?
Yo-yo dieting and starvation diets leave a lot of people’s metabolism (mine included) messed up, since one goes into metabolic "starvation mode" from major calorie cutting. How can a person stuck in this situation get out of it? How can one get their metabolism running correctly after "starving themselves?"

I’m only 16 years old and have been yo yo dieting for the past month. I know it screwed up my metabolism and I have lost a lot of muscle. I train in boxing and I was getting tired of weight loss stalling or going extremely slow so I tried a fad diet and started the yo yo cycle by losing a certain amount of weight and gaining it right back. I totally regret doing this because now that I want to stop the yoyo cycle I have put on extra weight and more fat with less muscle. What should I do and how long will it take for my metabolism to get back on track. Should I start lifting weights to help gain some muscle back?
P.S I currently weigh 150 lbs, 5′6 1/2". The yo yo dieting got me down to 134 lbs but right back to 145-150. My goal is 125 lbs for boxing.
I’ve lost the same 50 pounds about seven times. I’m a pro at losing it, but I always gain it back. Aside from being in therapy for this problem, I’ve been on Weight Watchers three times;did Neutra System;Took Meridia (weigh loss drug) to lose weight;went on my own "lifestyle changes.";excercised; did South Beach; Slim Fast; Well, you get the point… I’ve been through it all almost. I just don’t know how to maintain the weight loss once it’s off. I know most of my problem is psychological, but I just can’t break this vicious cycle of chronic yo-yo dieting.
I know fad diets are horrible (believe me, as veteran yo-yo dieter i know!) and I do not want to GO ON one…I am jusst curious as to some of what you other ladies have done to lose pounds qucik…
…Me, I drank water all day and ate nothing but fruit and had a sensible dinner for like a week and lost about 11 pounds…gained em all back of course, lmao…what about you guys?
