These are serious eating disorders and often labeled an illness.
A fad diet would be an all grapefruit or cabbage diet, etc.

no! a fad diet is the special k diet, low carb diet, and the south diet\

the reason they are fad diets is because the person doesnt get all the nutrients they need. they also end up gaining the weight back. sometimes double the amount. also, fad diets dont always include exercise. you cant lose weight healthly if you dont exercise.

Hey, what do you mean Google doesn’t help any? I just googled "fad diets" and the very first link that appeared was http://www.faddiet.com. It has a ton of information about all sorts of fad diets, like the South Beach diet, Atkins, chicken soup diet, etc. I’m not sure why you didn’t find that site, but that is a very good place to start!

And to answer your question about those 2 eating disorders, there are some people who consider anorexia or bulimia to be a "lifestyle", but that is a whole other can of worms… and kind of scary to read what some of those people write. They are disorders, plain and simple, even though many people with those sicknesses will say otherwise.

I think, when they’re started, they sort of ARE fad diets. People think "Oh, Angelina does this… I’ll do it for a week or two, then I’ll stop."

But they don’t stop. It just spirals downward until it becomes a full-fledged eating disorder.
